Sisvel grants Motorola an MP3 and MPEG 2 audio patent license
Turin (Italy) and Alexandria, VA (USA), December 21, 2005 - S.I.SV.EL. S.p.A. and its US subsidiary Audio MPEG, Inc. announced today that they have granted Motorola Inc. a license for MPEG Audio layers 1, 2, and 3 (MP3) patents. The Agreement covers all Motorola’s mobile phones with MP3 capabilities and all Motorola digital set-top boxes and decoders.
“This license will further strengthen and promote the inclusion of MP3 capabilities in the cellular phone industry and is a testament to the continuing expansion of MP3 as the leading format in audio compression” said Mr. Paolo D’Amato, Managing Director of SISVEL. The MP3 and MPEG 2 audio compression patents licensed by Sisvel and Audio MPEG were developed and are owned by Orange (formerly France Telecom), TDF S.A. (Telediffusion de France), U.S. Philips Corporation, Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V., Institut fur Rundfunktechnik GmbH, and Bayerische Rundfunkwerbung GmbH."
