SEPs in PATENTSCOPE Launch Event
On 3 February 2026, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will host a hybrid launch event at its headquarters in Geneva to present a new feature in PATENTSCOPE, WIPO’s global patent database, aimed at increasing transparency around standard essential patents (SEPs).
The new functionality builds on the Declared SEPs feature introduced in 2025 and now integrates standard essentiality verification information provided by patent pool administrators. Sisvel is the first organization to contribute to this initiative, enabling users of PATENTSCOPE to access verified essentiality information directly within patent records.
Through its licensing programs, Sisvel routinely publishes and updates lists of patents evaluated for essentiality by independent third-party experts. The integration of this data into PATENTSCOPE marks a significant step forward in making reliable, verified SEP information more easily accessible worldwide.
The event will explore the importance of SEPs in enabling interoperability across key technologies such as 4G and 5G mobile communications, Wi-Fi and video compression standards, and will address the growing relevance of standardization in the context of the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart devices.
Matteo Sabattini, Executive Head of Government Affairs at Sisvel will be among the speakers, contributing Sisvel’s perspective on patent pools, essentiality verification and the value of voluntary industry collaboration in line with WIPO’s SEP Strategy.
