Last week, we announced that Cisco had become the latest licensee of the Sisvel Wi-Fi 6 patent pool. This was a big moment for the programme given Cisco’s position as a global technology leader in enterprise networking, including enterprise grade access points.

The deal was done on an amicable basis and represents a significant validation of the pool’s offer of transparent, efficient access to nearly 2,000 patents owned by world-class Wi-Fi 6 innovators. In addition to Cisco, more than 20 new licensees have come on board since the start of Q4 2023.

Elsewhere, we provided a briefing on what is thought to be the first decision by a US federal court specifically declining to set a FRAND rate for a patent pool licence; while a WTO arbitrator ruled in favour of the European Union in finding that anti-suit injunctions issued by Chinese courts in SEP cases do violate TRIPs. There was also a new update on Nokia’s licensing royalty income, as well as much more besides.

Please note that inclusion of a piece in the list below does not signify agreement with what is stated in the linked article, just that we believe it is of interest and worth pointing out.
