Luxembourg, October 13, 2022 - Sisvel International S.A. (“Sisvel”) announced today that Danish company Apator Miitors ApS has joined the MIOTY licensing program as a new patent owner. At the same time, recently three members of the German MIOTY Alliance joined the MIOTY licensing program as new licensees: German companies ifm electronic GmbH and WIKA Alexander Wiegand SE & Co. KG, and the Austrian company ragsol GmbH.

The MIOTY” Joint Licensing Platform was launched in April 2020, with patents owned, or controlled, by Fraunhofer-Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS (“Fraunhofer IIS”) and Diehl Metering GmbH (“Diehl”).

Fraunhofer IIS and Diehl are working together under the brand name “MIOTY” in the area of wireless technology for low power wide area networks (“LPWAN”). MIOTY technology is based on the protocol family Telegram Splitting Ultra Narrow Band (“TS-UNB”) of the ETSI standard TS 103 357 (“TS-UNB Specification”).

Using 100 KHz to 1,5 MHz bandwidth in worldwide license-free Sub-GHz spectrum, the technology offers robustness thanks to the core invention behind MIOTY: “Telegram Splitting”. The technology breaks a data packet into numerous subpackets and distributes them over time and frequency. “Telegram Splitting” enables unmatched robustness against large interferers in a crowded license-free spectrum, securing highly reliable data connection from MIOTY end nodes to the base station.

MIOTY is promoted by the MIOTY Alliance and its members. Further information including available MIOTY products are available on the website of the MIOTY Alliance (https://mioty-alliance.com/portfolio/hardware/).

The licensing platform is operated to make MIOTY technology accessible on fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory terms and conditions by offering a fixed royalty-bearing, non-transferable, non-assignable, non-exclusive license, with no right to grant sublicenses, under patents essential to the TS-UNB Specification. In addition, Sisvel offers a license to patents complementary to MIOTY implementations.

Since the launch of the licensing program the following well-known companies have now joined as licensees:

  • Diehl Metering GmbH

  • Lansen System AB

  • WEPTECH elektronik GmbH

  • Enduralink Pte. Ltd.

  • ifm electronic GmbH

  • WIKA Alexander Wiegand SE & Co. KG

  • ragsol GmbH – Oil & Gas Field Solutions

Further information about the terms and conditions of Sisvel’s MIOTY licenses are available on Sisvel’s website.

Open for additional patent owners
The MIOTY Licensing Platform remains open to additional patent owners with relevant patents. Thus, Sisvel invites all parties that have patents or patent applications they believe to be essential to the protocol family TS-UNB of the ETSI standard TS 103 357 to contact Sisvel and submit those patent(s) for an evaluation by the program’s designated, independent evaluators.
