Introducing Sisvel Bespoke
Under the leadership of our former Head of Strategy, Nick Dudziak, this new service is focused on getting complex patent transactions over the line to the benefit of all parties involved
Patent pools are very often the most practical, efficient and cost-effective way to ensure rapid access to cutting edge technology. At Sisvel, we are proud of the numerous programmes we run and of the many benefits they deliver to both licensors and licensees. However, we also understand that patent pools may not always be the most appropriate solution to a dealmaking challenge.
It’s with this in mind that we are delighted to announce the launch of Sisvel Bespoke. This new service is based around a highly personalised approach to patent transactions; one that is designed to ensure access to technologies and reduce licence clearing frictions in ways that achieve the business goals of all the entities involved in a deal.
Devised and managed by our former Head of Strategy, Nick Dudziak - and employing Sisvel’s unique combination of legal, technical, market and transactional expertise - Sisvel Bespoke solves problems, bridges gaps, and brings parties together to close win-win patent agreements.
In his previous role, Dudziak explains, he identified a gap in the market that he felt required a specialised, solution-oriented approach to create additional value for Sisvel’s partners. “Sometimes parties that want to work together struggle to find the parameters within which they can do so or lack the in-house expertise to get challenging deals over the line,” Dudziak says. “For various business reasons, they may also need to ensure absolute confidentiality from the beginning of the process through to its end.”
Sisvel Bespoke is designed to work with parties across the technology ecosystem to develop and execute licensing strategies that deliver from start to finish, Dudziak says: “We are technology agnostic and can operate in a variety of capacities, including rights acquisition, agency and independent intermediary. It all depends on our clients’ circumstances and objectives.”
During the last two years, drawing on support from Sisvel’s legal and technical functions, Dudziak has quietly closed a string of major transactions with a combined value of several hundreds of millions of dollars.
“The agreements we have already facilitated spanned cellular, video, and Wi-Fi,” Dudziak states. “All were confidential, outside of Sisvel’s standard pool constructs, and commercially negotiated without litigation.” Deal structures, he continues, have ranged from bilateral cross licensing through bilateral multi-technology portfolio licensing to multilateral transactions.
At Sisvel Bespoke, Dudziak is dedicated full-time to finding common ground between patent owners and technology implementors to build fair and efficient transactional solutions that meet each party’s needs.
