Last week, Sisvel announced the launch of our new Wi-Fi Multimode patent pool. This groundbreaking programme provides one-stop access to SEPs owned by a group of global leaders in multigenerational Wi-Fi technology: Huawei, KPN, Mitsubishi Electric, Orange, Panasonic, Philips, SK Telecom, Wilus and ZTE, as well as Sisvel affiliate Aegis 11 SA. Four of the licensors (Huawei, Panasonic, Philips and ZTE) are also licensees. They are joined by Sony Group Corporation, whose early-stage sign-up represents a significant validation of the pool’s proposition.
The Wi-Fi Multimode pool builds on the success of the Sisvel Wi-Fi 6 pool, which, over a three-year period, closed agreements with nearly 40 companies, including Acer, Netgear, Cisco and HP. With Wi-Fi 7 SEPs now added to the mix, the new programme offers an efficient way to access essential Wi-Fi rights for years to come. No wonder Sisvel CEO Mattia Fogliacco predicts an exciting future for the firm in a piece written for Sisvel Insights.
Elsewhere, both Ericsson and Nokia reported major market news. The former announced its annual results, which showed record income from patent licensing activity; and the latter revealed that it has secured its fifth licensee in the Chinese auto industry. In Japan, meanwhile, the Tokyo District Court has published new, plaintiff-friendly guidelines for SEP litigation. However, according to Yoshinori Shimizu, the managing director of Sisvel’s Japanese office, it remains to be seen whether these will turn out to be a gamechanger.
