Digital Video Broadcasting - Terrestrial ("DVB-T") is a technical standard developed by the DVB Project and adopted by the European Telecommunications Standardization Institute (“ETSI”) as ETSI standard ETS300744. This standard specifies the framing structure, channel coding, and modulation for Digital Terrestrial Television ("DTT") broadcasting.
The technology covered by the DVB-T essential patents licensed by Sisvel forms the backbone of the DVB-T standard and is part of the ETS300744 standard. As a result, any product capable of decoding DVB-T compliant signals necessarily follows the standard and uses this technology.
In particular, any DVB-T receiver is covered by the DVB-T essential patents licensed by Sisvel regardless of whether standing alone or incorporated into other products such as digital set-top boxes, cellular telephones, computers, A/V receivers, DVD recorders with DVB-T capabilities, television sets with DVB-T capabilities, and any other products capable of decoding DVB-T compliant signals.
Therefore, all products capable of decoding DVB-T compliant signals need a license under the patents licensed by Sisvel regardless of whether they have already acquired licenses (directly or through their chip suppliers) from other companies for other patents on these products.
Sisvel offers licenses under the DVB-T essential patents on fair, reasonable, and non discriminatory terms.
