Today Sisvel announced that they have entered into a settlement agreement with ZTE, following their joint filing for dismissal of their dispute regarding infringement of Sisvel’s patents in various court cases. The parties had been in litigation in recent years across Europe and more recently before the courts of the Northern District of Texas, US, where Sisvel claimed infringement of their patents through the use of ZTE’s products of the 3G and 4G standards.

The cellular patent portfolio of Sisvel includes over 80 patent families (comprising over a 1,000 individual patents) deemed essential to the cellular standards. The cellular patents that Sisvel owns, originate from smartphone manufacturers LGE, Blackberry (formerly Research In Motion), Nokia, the French telecom operator Orange and the Chinese R&D institute Langbo. Sisvel offers licenses to these patents as part of its Mobile Communication Program, a licensing platform that licenses cellular (2G, 3G, 4G) standard essential patents, which are owned by a variety of companies, including Airbus DS, KPN, Mitsubishi Electric, Orange, Wilus, Sisvel and 3G Licensing.

“Sisvel is always committed to find settlement of its claims under fair terms. We believe that this deal - once again - confirms the merits of our patent portfolio.” said David Muus, Program Manager of Sisvel’s Mobile Communication Program. He continued: “If parties are willing and reasonable, they will find that Sisvel is committed to find common ground. We were quite pleased to have found such terms together with the excellent team of ZTE.”
