Huawei has become the first major patent holder to publish its bilateral royalty rates for Wi-Fi 7 SEPs, a step towards greater transparency in a critical technology market.

The Chinese telecommunications giant will charge $0.50 per Wi-Fi 7 compliant device, unchanged from the royalty that it set for Wi-Fi 6 products. Of course, Huawei is also a licensor in the Sisvel Wi-Fi Multimode programme, which makes Wi-Fi 6 and 7 patents from 10 leading innovators available at rates ranging from $0.50 to $0.70 (a separate royalty schedule applies to enterprise access points).

In a blog post, the company said that the announcement reaffirms its commitment to transparent and reasonable licensing. It also explained the benefits to industry of pool licensing: streamlined dealmaking, transparent licensing frameworks and lower transaction costs. “Huawei continues to facilitate collaborative licensing models that balance the interests of innovators and implementers,” CIPO Alan Fan said, “further reinforcing its leadership in shaping a transparent and efficient global Wi-Fi licensing environment.”

In other news, Nokia announced a pair of major licensing deals last week. The Finnish company has concluded a cross-licence with Lenovo, covering a range of technologies for a multi-year period. Nokia also signed a deal with Acer, one of three companies it launched legal action against in 2025 for video patent infringement. The final terms of the deal will be determined in arbitration.

Elsewhere, ASUS has been hit with an injunction in China as its SEP dispute with Oppo continues to simmer; and we reported from San Diego on Sisvel founder Roberto Dini’s induction into the IP Hall of Fame.

Please note that the inclusion of a piece in the list below does not signify agreement with what is stated in the linked article – just that we believe it is of interest and worth flagging.
