Last week was a busy one for everyone at team Sisvel. More than 200 people joined us in Barcelona for Sisvel Connect 2025 and to mark the occasion we published a message from our Group President and CEO Mattia Fogliacco laying out just how much has changed in the business since the start of 2024.
In his piece, Mattia detailed the litany of major appointments Sisvel has made, bolstering our legal, business development, policy and comms teams with new leadership. The firm’s geographical footprint has grown too, with major hires made in Tokyo, Seoul and most recently Shenzhen. On the dealmaking front, we saw significant traction for the Wi-Fi 6 and Cellular IoT offerings, built on strong performance in AV1 and other programmes, and launched new custom solutions offering Sisvel Bespoke. There was much more besides.
This momentum, Mattia concluded, has been driven by the way we operate. Sisvel is committed to the highest standards of transparency, and to constant engagement with all parts of the market. We believe that sets us apart.
In the legal world, meanwhile, the interplay between UK and European courts over FRAND jurisdiction continued with a fresh decision from the High Court in London. The latest development came in the clash between InterDigital and Amazon. Taking notice of anti-interim-licence injunctions (AILI) that emerged from the UPC and Germany earlier this month, Mr Justice Meade granted Amazon an anti-anti-suit injunction (AASI) protecting the global RAND rate-setting portion of its UK proceedings against InterDigital.
Elsewhere, Nordic Semiconductor announced a new end-product licensee under the innovative sub-licensing framework it has entered into with the Sisvel Cellular IoT programme; and Sisvel founder Roberto Dini observed that the US Department of Justice (DoJ) appears sceptical towards proprietary technical specifications that claim to be ‘royalty-free’.
Please note that inclusion of a piece in the list below does not signify agreement with what is stated in the linked article, just that we believe it is of interest and worth pointing out.
