Luxembourg, 19 March 2026: Giovanni Ballocca has been named Sisvel’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO). It is the first appointment to the position at the company since 2017.

As CTO, Ballocca will play a central role in adopting technologies that support Sisvel’s business activities and exploring opportunities in new technology areas. He will also be responsible for building collaborative research and innovation projects with academic institutions, R&D labs and private companies.

Ballocca joined Sisvel in 2009 and for many years led the video coding and multimedia team at Sisvel Technology. As well as being closely involved in standardisation work and video coding and decoding licensing activity for Sisvel pools, he was responsible for the evaluation of portfolios in technology areas not covered by existing programmes.

Prior to his time at Sisvel, Ballocca spent 10 years as head of DTVLab, a joint research project between Sun Microsystems and Telecom Italia. Before that, he worked on high-performance computing and distributed computing infrastructures and in software development. He has a master’s degree in physics.

Although this is a new role for me, I have an experienced team with deep technical knowledge to support me, so I am confident that we can begin to make a meaningful contribution quickly.”
